Outreach

To learn more about or get involved in any of the following outreach ministries of Christ Chapel, please contact the church office.

Days of Hospitality

Every other month Christ Chapel opens its doors to offer a meal and some entertainment to men and women that are homeless on a Sunday afternoon. This program is facilitated by the Salvation Army.

“I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me… as you did it to the least of these my brothers, you did it to Me.” ~ Matthew 25:35, 40

While we can not help resolve the challenges facing our homeless guests during the course of a meal, we value the opportunity to show the love of our Lord by welcoming them to our Church home for an afternoon.

Gleaners

The Gleaners Ministry is a community outreach that uses the following scripture as it's guide: “When you reap the harvest of your land do not reap to the very edges of your fields or gather the gleanings of your harvest, leave them for the poor.”
~ Leviticus 20:24

The Gleaners collect leftover food donated by local businesses so that we can distribute it to meet the needs of individuals and organizations, including shelters and group homes, around the Cape.

NOAH Shelter /HAC Walk to End Homelessness

Members of our Christ Chapel family and youth group participate in the annual Walk to End Homelessness which takes place the last Sunday in September. Donations raised go to support NOAH, a shelter for homeless individuals on Cape & the islands other programs supported by the Housing Assistance Corporation (HAC).

Operation Christmas Child

Each year since 1997 Christ Chapel has packaged and shipped a growing number of Christmas boxes packed with toys and practical items to Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse. Each box is prayed over and contains a personal note from one of our many volunteers. The boxes are then distributed through churches to children in need all around the world.

Christ Chapel is the local collection site for area churches and schools. In 2006, 32 churches and schools participating across the Cape contributing a total of 2,739 boxes, which then went to bless and minister to 2,739 needy children throughout the world!

Samaritan's Outreach

Samaritan's Outreach is a ministry developed by Ruth Banner, who requests donations from our church to help meet needs of groups and individuals in our community. Her projects include collecting yarn for senior center residents to knit warm scarves to ship in Operation Christmas Child boxes; collecting pillows for the clients living at Champ House; collecting Christmas gifts for residents at local nursing home, and many others. Ruth keeps our congregation aware of and provides opportunities for us to meet the practical needs of others in our area.

Stephen Ministry

Christ Chapel’s Stephen Ministers provide confidential, one-to-one, Christian care. They listen, care, encourage, and pray with and for a person in need for an ongoing period of time. Male Stephen Ministers are always matched with men, and female Stephen Ministers are matched with women.

Stephen Ministers have been specially trained to meet emotional and spiritual needs. Our next training session is tentatively scheduled to begin mid-September, 2007. If you are interested in being trained as a Stephen Minister or would like more information, please contact the church office.

If you or someone you know is hurting, find out more about Stephen Ministry by talking with one of our Stephen Ministry Leaders or by contacting the church office at 508-420-1200. Our Stephen Ministers are there to care!
