Music Ministries
Chancel Choir

Christ Chapel’s Chancel Choir exists to bring glory to God by worshipping Him and enjoying Him more. Through our songs, practices, and public ministry we seek to promote the Word of God and Biblical principles so that we, and those who hear us, will grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. As His disciples, we strive to serve the Body joyfully, faithfully, and skillfully and are intent upon growing in Him and continually becoming more obedient and devoted to following Jesus.
The Chancel Choir is a warm fellowship of musically interested Christians from many walks of life with a variety of personalities. Each member brings his or her own strengths, weaknesses, and gifts to the group. It is precisely this diversity that defines the uniqueness of our group. As each individual contributes to the unity of sound and purpose, God – through His gift of music – blends the differing elements into an instrument of praise designed to sing skillfully for His glory.
Rehearsals of the Chancel Choir are held on Thursday evenings from 7-9. The choir meets weekly and leads regularly in worship from February through December. Membership in the group is open to all who sense God’s call to use their gift in this ministry and who are able to make the regular, on-going commitment required. That being said, we note that God is infinitely more concerned about one’s level of faithfulness than his or her level of talent. We sing because of God. He deserves our best offerings – offerings that cost us something!
CHILDREN’S PRAISE RESOUNDING (CPR)
Children's Praise Resounding (CPR), Christ Chapel’s community based children's music ensemble, meets during the school year. The group is open to all students in grades 1-6 and meets Monday afternoons (excluding Monday holidays) from 3:45-5:00 p.m. at Christ Chapel.
In a day and age when so much of a child's world is consumed with passive activities and artificial realities it is essential that they be given opportunities to explore and develop their creative potential. Music helps children discover the joy of creating. A child needs and deserves the opportunity to develop musically according to the capacity God has created within him or her. Music is essential to the worship experience of every child, and the depth of his or her musical worship experience is most often dependent upon the training he/she receives before reaching adulthood.
Singing, like math or reading, needs to be instilled in our children at the earliest possible age. When children realize they can be used by God to lead the entire congregation of all ages in worship, then they -- even at a very young age -- will feel that they are an integral part of the body of Christ. Our children's music program at Christ Chapel, is committed to providing each student with opportunities to learn and memorize God's truth through the songs we sing, develop relationships with Christian friends that allow them sing, laugh, and learn with each other, and to enjoy developing musical skills through musical games and other interactive activities.
Students participating in the program are instructed in singing and instrument playing through the Orff method of music education. Developed by the German musicologist, Carl Orff in the mid- twentieth century, this method relies on a highly active and participative learning environment to explore music through the use of specially designed instruments, singing, ear training, and rhythmic skill.
Using the Orff method, students within the group learn to accompany the choir's singing through the employment of the various instruments. In addition to our use of Orff instruments, students also learn to read music by playing strike chimes. During their season, CPR members will have opportunities to be involved in special musical presentations during Sunday morning services, prepare seasonal concerts and or demonstrations, and be involved in bringing the joy of music to local community centers and convalescent homes.

Our Pipe Organ
The organ at Christ Chapel was built by the Austin Organ Company of Hartford, CT and originally installed in the Hartford Institute for the Blind. Although the organ was over fifty years old at the time of its acquisition by Christ Chapel, it had been used very little and was in excellent condition.
The organ was redesigned and refurbished and new sets of pipes were added by the Austin Company. It was then removed from their factory and installed in Christ Chapel by the McNeely Organ Company of Waterford, CT. The organ console was completely rebuilt and new wiring installed throughout. Finally, the tonal finishing to suit the acoustic environment of the church was done by Austin.
The organ today is very complete with a modern contemporary sound and is well suited to the varied services of the church for leading in congregational singing, choir accompaniment and for the performance of all types of organ music.

Our Services of Worship
Koinonia Praise & Worship Service
Koinonia provides an intimate worship experience in a corporate setting. Named with the New Testament word that speaks of the close, mutual relationships that occur when people share the Lord in common, this service is Word-driven and seeks to glorify God through the blending of newer worship songs and praise choruses with a fresh, new approach to some of the great hymns of the faith. The service is accompanied by an instrumental ensemble comprised of piano, bass, drums, guitars, and keyboard as well as the occasional inclusion of an orchestral instrument or two.

Second Worship Service
Our second morning worship opportunity incorporates many time-honored elements that have been centerpieces of Christian worship through the ages. The public reading and preaching of God's Word, affirmations of faith through the historic creeds of the church, psalms, hymns, spiritual songs, and anthems of praise or meditation by our Chancel or Children's Choir. The musical portions of this service are primarily accompanied by organ and/or piano.
Child care is provided during both morning services.

Sunday @ 6 -No evening meeting the last Sunday of each month.
This is a service of great variety that provides special opportunity for visits from our missionaries or missionary candidates, seminar type presentations on Biblical topics of interest, the preaching of God's Word, musical presentations and concerts from visiting groups and artists, and frequent times of sharing, prayer, and singspiration.
